By molding industrial metal mesh into fluid, motion-like shapes, I create transparent artworks that captivate viewers, relying on intuition and spontaneity.
These sculptural forms are like a wondrous dance of movements seeking connections. Sometimes they intertwine in the most unexpected and beautiful ways, merging naturally and becoming more complete.

This circle, molded in a flowing movement from metal mesh, begins in a vibrant pink color and gradually transforms into a delicate white, creating a sense of movement and depth. This harmonious transition evokes a feeling of serenity and invites the viewer to explore the subtle beauty and texture of the material. For me, the circle symbolizes the interconnectedness and cycles of organic life.

Just as animals and plants in nature shed their skins and layers and rebuild them, humans also peel away layers over time to discover and develop their true core. I depict this metamorphosis by creating semi-transparent sculptures from metal mesh. These sculptures, with their unique shadow effects, reveal what we leave behind and uncover the hidden beauty within.

I love the interplay between colors, shapes, and light in my sculptures. These works create a shifting effect through color, light, and the moiré effect.

CURRICULUM VITAE
Carry Doorn is a Dutch artist. A few years ago she switched career to become an artist. Until that time she was a successful fashion designer. All along her career she couldn’t resist making and selling art. Lately she has decided to devote herself entirely to making art. Her love for, knowledge of and feeling for textile is now expressed in her art work.
Nowadays she creates artworks that are not only visually appealing but also carry deeper meaning. Carry is fascinated by how we as human beings relate to each other and to ourselves in the world and environment we live in. This serves as the inspiration for her work. She participates in national as well as international exhibitions and art fairs.
Her art is a natural expression of her creative process, as she explores and experiments with different materials and media. She is a recycling explorer, always in sync with the materials she employs. By using colored textiles, she achieves a layered and translucent appearance. The unique shadow effects and colors that emerge when light falls upon them demand attention and reflection. Her work is not only intriguing and captivating but also poetic.
For her 3D works, Carry Doorn uses Plexiglas panels or welded steel frames covered with canvas. She builds the artwork in various layers, incorporating transparent tulle, metal mesh, or organza silk. This can result in either figurative or abstract images, such as expressive faces or graphic shapes. The materials she uses include acrylic paint and spray, brushes, a scalpel, scissors, and a sewing machine, as well as hand embroidery with thick thread.
