Han Jooeun

The Warmth of Blue

Jooeun Han is a Korean ceramist who finds solace in creating pottery when worried, focusing on making thin, light pieces to maintain concentration. He paints densely on white ceramic surfaces, which serve as his canvas. This process leads him to a calm state. Jooeun Han unconsciously expresses Korean culture and memories, inspired by ordinary objects and scenery from a small alley in Northern Europe. He works with white porcelain. The objects shown in this exhibition are made using slip-casting techniques. After the initial firing, he hand-paints detailed images on the ceramic surfaces and fires them again at 1260 degrees. His work invites viewers to experience the serene beauty and cultural depth embedded in each piece.

Geke Schalkwijk

The Absurdity of the Ordinary

Geke Schalkwijk is an artist inspired by everyday life and behavior in the modern Western world. He is fascinated by the malleability of contemporary existence and aims to reveal the absurdity of our seemingly normal lives.
Geke achieves this by working with everyday objects, archetypes, and symbols from our time, which he alters, distorts, or places in new contexts. Through these transformations, he explores the norms and values attributed to these objects and symbols over the years. By changing them, Geke offers a critical and refreshing perspective on modern life.
His work invites us to reflect on the influence of our habits and the malleability of our culture.
